The Cascades Combine will be the main leg of the tryout process - everyone is invited to compete for a spot on the 2020 Seattle Cascades!

Attend both part I and part II if you can, and especially if you’re serious about making the team. The more we can see you compete, the more information we will have to support your tryout. We will make our roster decisions at the conclusion of the weekend and communicate with tryouts within the following week.

2020 Cascades COMBINE

THE SEASON

• The 2020 Seattle Cascades WOMXN’S team will compete in the Western Ultimate League (WUL) and the OPEN team will compete in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). From these two groups of players, we’ll compose a MIXED team that will compete in mixed gender showcase games, aka “Cup” games.

  • The WUL regular season will begin in late March and conclude in early May. We will play 6 games (3 home, 3 away), and depending our record we will compete in the post-season which will last 2-3 weeks.

  • The AUDL regular season will run from early April to mid July, with 6 home games and 6 away games. Then, depending on our record we will compete in playoffs and Championship Weekend in August.

• The WUL and AUDL regular season schedules will be announced in February and the dates of our MIXED “Cup” games will follow.

• Given the constraints of scheduling with two different leagues, we will occasionally have a WUL home game on the same day as an AUDL away game (or vice versa).

• The Seattle Cascades is one organization and front office office that will manage both the WOMEXN’S (WUL) team and the OPEN (AUDL) team in 2020.

COACHING STAFF

• We have five coaches on board for the 2020 season, including dedicated coaches for the WOMXN’S and OPEN teams. (Stay tuned for updates.)

TRYOUTS

• In order to be considered for the Seattle Cascades, you must attend the Combine - ideally both session I and II. If you will be out of town Jan 25-26 or have an unavoidable conflict, get in touch with Xtehn no later than January 20th and explain your circumstances.

• The Selection Committee for the WOMXN’s and OPEN rosters includes the coaches and captains for that team, plus the Seattle Cascades GM (Xtehn). We’ll have “group leaders” at the Combine who will be leading some drills; they are also part of the process as the Selection Committee will solicit their input before making roster decisions.

• Players younger than 18 are eligible for a practice player position on Cascades, but will not be permitted to compete in WUL or AUDL games. If you're under 18, you’re welcome to attend the Combine if you bring both an AUDL Liability Waiver Form and a Medical Authorization Form signed by a parent or guardian. If you're under 18 and you don't have these completed forms, you will be not be permitted to play.

• In addition to full roster positions on the WOMXN’S and OPEN teams, we will offer practice/reserve roster positions.

• Players who try out for both the WOMXN’S and OPEN teams will be offered a full roster position on a maximum of one of the two teams.

• After the Cascades Combine, tryouts will proceed in a closed (invite-only) fashion. There will be a final tryout February 1-2, and then final WOMXN and OPEN rosters will be selected and announced.

  • WOMXN: Saturday, Feb 1st, 6:45pm-10:30pm, location TBA

  • OPEN: Sunday, Feb 2nd, 8:45am-12:00pm, location TBA

• For both WOMXN’S and OPEN teams, our first practice of the 2020 season will be Sunday, Feb 9th, 2:15pm-5:15pm, location TBA.

THE COMBINE

• REGISTER FOR THE COMBINE AHEAD OF TIME and get updates about the event, including specific directions, "what to bring", and comments about the tryout process.

• Scholarships are available upon request. Email Xtehn; no questions asked.

• Saturday - check in 30m before the start time: fill out paperwork, pick up your number, get your picture taken, and then get some throws in before we begin.

• Sunday - 15m before the start time. If you didn’t attend on Saturday, arrive at 30m before start time to check in.

• Our coaching staff and selection committee will give as much individual player feedback as we can over the course of the Combine. If you're eager for feedback, approach a group leader or selection committee member and ask. We are not planning to email personalized feedback about your tryout unless you request it.

* GENDER TERMINOLOGY: “Womxn” on the WOMXN’S and MIXED rosters are players eligible for the usau women’s division or for a woman placement in the mixed division. “Men” or “male athletes” are only eligible to play on the OPEN and MIXED rosters. The OPEN team is accessible to all genders, without limitations.
