MEDIA iNTERNSHIP

Objective: Create relevant and interesting content for the Tempest and Cascades fan base and Seattle community at large. Present the team and organization in a positive light while maintaining journalistic integrity. Freedom to experiment with various forms and styles of media.

While this Media Internship spans a variety of topics, the goal is twofold:
1. Work on projects that contribute real value to Seattle Tempest and Seattle Cascades.
2. Get an experience that is educational, enjoyable, and a potential career stepping stone.
The ideal internship has these two circles overlapping as much as possible.

Responsibilities:

  1. One or more written media features per week:
    -- Topics will vary; Tempest and Cascades news coverage, stories about Tempest/Cascades in our community, etc.
    -- Mediums include website, social media channels, and earned media outlets.
    -- Assignments by Media Manager.

  2. Home game coverage:
    -- Ownership over live media channels (e.g. Insta, FB, Twitter),
    -- Post-game feature for immediate release online.
    -- Player interviews; gather quotes, gain player perspectives, etc.

  3. Media projects:
    -- Collaborate with Media Team on various media projects
    -- Opportunity to gain experience with various forms of media; written, photo, video, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills and ability to adapt writing style

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently

  • Team-focused mentality, cooperative

  • Well-developed knowledge of ultimate

  • Knowledge of Seattle ultimate scene and WUL/AUDL a plus

Internship details:

  • Off-season: year-round, with focus on building the brand and ramping up for the season.

  • On-season: March - July, with focus on home games.

  • Length of internship and time frame can be negotiated.

  • Weekly assignments with deadlines

  • Computer available for duration of internship.

  • Meetings: 1-2 hours per week for coordination with Media Team

  • Weekend commitments: home game coverage, 8-10 games

  • Compensation commensurate with experience
